Edged data center opens in Aurora

Edged, an ultraefficient data center, now is open in Aurora and is a key addition to the city’s technology corridor.

City officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently celebrating the transformation of the site into a cutting-edge digital hub, unveiling the first of several buildings on the 65-acre campus located on Aurora’s far east side.

The state-of-the-art campus, at 2835 Bilter Road, is designed to support high-density artificial intelligence (AI) workloads and features advanced waterless cooling and ultraefficient energy systems.

“The grand opening of Edged marks a significant milestone for Aurora and the greater Chicagoland area,” Mayor Richard Irvin said. “This state-of-the-art high-tech campus not only strengthens our city’s position as a hub for innovation and technology but also brings tremendous economic and employment opportunities to our community.”

The development of the full campus is expected to create more than 2,000 construction jobs, according to a city news release.

The Edged Chicago campus significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional data centers and uses zero water for cooling, setting a new standard for sustainable digital infrastructure, according to the release.

Edged data centers currently are under construction or operational in major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, Columbus, and Phoenix. Edged, a subsidiary of Endeavour, is an industry leader in eco-friendly and high-performance data solutions, with nearly a dozen new facilities in development nationwide.
