Boys basketball roundup: Schaumburg survives Prospect’s furious comeback; Grayslake North upsets rival

It is survive or go home time. And Schaumburg survived.

Barely.

Prospect rallied from 19 points down in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime tied at 55-55. But the Saxons outscored the Knights 8-2 in overtime to win 63 -57 Tuesday in the Class 4A regional semifinals at Lincolnshire.

Schaumburg (22-10) broke out to a 35-20 halftime lead and led by 19 late in the fourth quarter. Prospect (14-18) made a huge run, and tied it at 55-55 to with 5 seconds left to send it overtime. Cam Anderson led Schaumburg with 22 points, Zion Young had 16 and Jordan Tunis 11.

Ben Schneider led Prospect with 18 points while Ryan Lifton and Colin Tucker each had 13 points.

Stevenson 71, Wheeling 32: Regional host Stevenson (21-10) bolted to a 41-15 halftime lead and never looked back. Atticus Richmond led the Patriots with 20 points while Aidan Bardic had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists, Liam Curtin 11 points and Rocco Pagliocca 8 points. Wheeling (11-20) was led by Brett Collar, who had 16 points.

At Elgin Larkin

Fremd 63, Elgin Larkin 36: Playing in Larkin’s gym, top-seeded Fremd (25-3) was able to come away with a convincing win. Ryan Brown led the Vikings with 15 points, Jordan Williams had 14, Sam Hirsch 11, Rafael Pinto 7 and Tommy Moffett had 6 as none of the Fremd starters played in the fourth quarter.

Conant 54, Hoffman Estates 41: Conant (14-14) beat their crosstown rivals for the third time this season. Hoffman ends its season at at 21-11.

At Barrington

Hersey 62, Buffalo Grove 34: Hersey (22-6) beat Buffalo Grove for the third time this season. Jackson Hupp’s 20 points, Charlie Pomis’ 13 points and Brody Variano’s 11 points paced the Huskies. Tyler Baker led Buffalo Grove (10-21) with 9 points.

Barrington 43, Dundee-Crown 31: The Broncos grinded out a physical win over the Chargers. Oliver Gray and Chris Tacher each had 13 points to lead Barrington (19-7) while Adam Baird chipped in 10 points.

At McHenry

Warren 64, Grant 40: Sophomore guard Jaxson Davis had 19 points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot as second-seeded Warren cruised in the Class 4A regional semifinal.

Javerion Banks added 11 points, including a 3-pointer and breakaway dunk for Warren (22-10), which advanced to Friday's final against either No. 3 McHenry or No. 5 Jacobs. Zach Ausburn had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who led 19-10 after the first quarter and extended their lead to 32-20 by halftime.

No. 7 Grant (16-12) was led by Charles Schlicht's 11 points. Noah McMath scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter.

At Highland Park

Evanston 93, Leyden 35: Leyden (9-22), which won Monday’s game over Sean, ran into a buzzsaw with top-seeded Evanston.

At Maine South

Lane 69, Maine East 42: Maine East (7-21) got off to a nice start with a 16-14 lead after one quarter. But the 13th-seeded Demons couldn’t hang on against fourth-seeded Lane. Brandon Schreiber had 18 points and Jayden Dozie 12 for Maine East.

New Trier 77, Maine South 72: The Hawks (13-17) came up just a bit short. Panayiotis Sotos and Rico D’Alessandro each had 20 points to pace Maine South. Jack Sladky had 12 points and Tyler Sierra added 6 points.

At Libertyville

Libertyville 46, Mundelein 40: After splitting two previous meetings, Libertyville (16-13) held off their North Suburban Conference rival. Mundelein finished the season at 9-22.

At Loyola

Glenbrook North 67, Maine West 34: Glenbrook North came out of the gates quickly for a 42-19 halftime lead to coast for the win. Maine West ended its season at 14-17.

At DePaul

Carmel 61, Ridgewood 41: Carmel (12-19) came up a winner behind Ethan Henderson’s 22 points and Ethan Mays’ 15 points. The Corsairs take on top-seeded DePaul Prep on Friday.

At Grayslake North

St. Viator 63, Wauconda 39: Leading 38-27 in the third quarter, Viator (23-9) scored 15 unanswered points to pull away. Sophomore Dawson Charles led Viator with 20 points while Brandyn Michaels added 14, Dayvion Ellis 10 and Jack Leonard 9.

Grayslake North 44, Grayslake Central 40: Grayslake North (17-14) stunned its crosstown rival in a thriller. Jayden Hunt had 16 point and Urso Mitrovic 15 points for North. Grayslake Central (21-10) was led by Alex Granville’s 15 points and Cole Halverson’s 13 points.

At Vernon Hills

Vernon Hills 43, Fenton 29: Vernon Hills (17-14) trailed 14-13 at the half, but rallied for the victory and will meet Lake Forest in Friday’s final. Daniel Odhiambo led the Cougars with 11 points. Anthony Morgan Jr. had 9 points while Brady Larsen, Tyler Perritt and Jeremy Zamost each had 7 points.

At Niles Notre Dame

Deerfield 65, Lakes 23: Lakes coach Chris Snyder picked up his 200th career win Monday as the Eagles eliminated CICS/Northtown. But his team couldn’t get him to 201 this season, as the Eagles (8-22) fell.

Notre Dame 55, Antioch 46: Antioch (17-14) had won five in a row and 8 of its last 9. But the Sequoits fell behind 17-7 after one quarter and could not recover.
