Riverside Avenue in St. Charles closing for culvert work

Riverside Avenue in St. Charles from Division Street to South Sixth Avenue will close to through traffic from March 3 to early May for water main construction and culvert replacement. No traffic will be allowed in the work zone; however, residents on Riverside Avenue will have driveway access.

Other closures for the project include Moore Avenue between Riverside Avenue and South Second Place, and the Fox River Trail crossing at Moore Avenue. Please follow both roadway and trail detour signs in place or plan on taking an alternate route.

This culvert replacement project is the next step in flood mitigation for the Seventh Avenue Creek, which has a history of flooding, causing damage to homes and creating hazardous conditions.

The project includes replacing the culvert that carries Seventh Avenue Creek under Riverside Avenue (Route 25) with a larger one to increase drainage capacity at the creek’s outlet, replacement of underground utilities, and realignment of the Fox River Trail crossing.
