Police: Pedestrian killed by Metra train in Downers Grove

An unidentified person was killed Monday evening after being struck by a Metra train.

The Downers Grove Police Department responded to the BNSF Railroad Tracks around the 1400 block of Gilbert Ave. after receiving a report of a pedestrian being hit by an eastbound train at about 4:36 p.m.

The railway vehicle was identified as inbound train No. 1272, and its accident caused movement to be delayed nearly 50 minutes, Metra spokeswoman Martha Hill said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Downers Grove Police.

The incident is being investigated by the Metra and Downers Grove Police Departments.
