Stand with record on township’s successes

For many successful years, the Elk Grove Township board has provided expertise and service. However, a new group of individuals say they will bring “progress” and “change” — and I am deeply concerned this will diminish our local government’s ability to continue meeting the needs of our community.

The proven record and experience of the current Township Board matters. They have increased services to the residents of the township, while not raising taxes for 10 years.

For example, in the last four years:

• Residents served by the Food Pantry increased by 340%

• Residents provided General Assistance increased by 275%

• Residents helped by Emergency Assistance increased by almost 100%

In addition,

• An Older Adult Specialist who is a Certified SHIP Counselor has been added to help seniors with Medicare, as well as assisting those with Medicaid and SNAP benefits

• Multiple employees who speak Spanish or Polish have been added to many departments to meet the needs of our community

• U.S. Passport services are now available in the township offices

• Almost 40 unpaid volunteers provide their time and resources to assist the Food Pantry

These services increased without the need for raising taxes, proving that the current board is fiscally responsible but still socially conscious. It’s rare to have such a combination in government and we would be foolish to trust others without this proven track record to make similar decisions.

The compassion of the current Republican Board members — Dave Perns, Richard “Dick” Keenley, Brian Maye and Dale Niewiardowski — is seen in their desire to increase services to meet the needs of residents while also keeping taxes low. Their efforts are a shining example of true citizen representation and I urge my fellow community members to join me in ensuring their re-election.
