Why the delays on safe crossings?
Now that the grandiose, multi-million-dollar pet project for Route 14 and the CN crossing is about to begin, I have one question. Why is it taking multiple years for safe, dependable crossing gates at all pedestrian sidewalks?
The vigil earlier this month in downtown Barrington and subsequent pleas from those students to the village board broke my heart. I am disgusted that this leadership thinks less of our community and their children than they do the commuters from outside suburbs.
My children are grown now, but I have grandchildren. I ask the parents (and grandparents) to speak up and demand fast action. Enough with these excuses. How dare the leadership spend outrageously for an unnecessary underpass when the children and any pedestrian continues to be at risk. Should that not have been a priority in spending years and years ago, as kids were exposed to train traffic?
