Thief steals Des Plaines resident’s identity to get credit line, buy AirPods

Someone used a Des Plaines resident’s personal information to open a Target credit account and then purchase a set of Apple AirPods, police said Tuesday.

The credit account was created at a Target store in Hillside in January, Des Plaines police said in a news release. The AirPods were valued at $188.

The victim learned of the identity theft after receiving a letter from Target that included the new credit card.
