Drive-through Ash Wednesday Blessing at United Methodist Church of Libertyville
The United Methodist Church of Libertyville, at 429 Brainerd Ave., Libertyville, will be offering a special Drive-Through Ash Wednesday Blessing on March 5. This unique event is open to everyone from 6-8 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and provides a simple convenient way for individuals to receive ashes and mark the beginning of the Lenten season.
“We are excited to offer this accessible and meaningful opportunity to mark the beginning of Lent,” said Pastor Jeffry, senior pastor at the United Methodist Church of Libertyville. “Whether you are someone exploring your faith, or are a longtime church member, this is a great way to engage with the sacred tradition of Ash Wednesday and reflect on the season of repentance and grace.”
Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent, a season of reflection and preparation for Easter. During this time, Christians are invited to focus on spiritual renewal and turning back to God. The traditional practice of receiving ashes on the forehead is a reminder of one’s mortality and the need for God’s grace. The words spoken during the imposition of ashes — “From dust you came, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19) — call participants to reflect on the fragility of life and the promise of renewal through Christ.
How the Drive-Through Ash Wednesday Blessing Works:
• Simply drive up through the United Methodist Church of Libertyville’s parking lot during one of the designated times.
• Receive your Ash Wednesday Blessing through the window of your car.
• There’s no need to leave your vehicle, just roll down your window.
If you have a need for more prayer or to talk with a pastor, park and someone will make time for you.
