Elgin woman faces drug charges following traffic stop
An Elgin woman faces drug-related charges following a traffic stop for a speeding violation, Bartlett police said.
Around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Bartlett police stopped a 2019 Hyundai Elantra on Lake Street near Old Lake Street for speeding. The officer arrested the driver, Fabiola Medina, 29, for operating the vehicle on a suspended driver’s license.
Upon searching Medina’s vehicle, the officer found multiple individual bags of suspected cannabis and two bags of psilocybin inside a backpack, police said.
Medina is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver, both Class 4 felonies. She also is charged with two class A misdemeanors for unlawful possession of cannabis in a vehicle and for driving with a suspended license, authorities said.
She also received traffic citations for speeding and having an expired license registration, police said.
Medina has been released on pretrial conditions and will appear at 9 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
