Two Ohio men charged with robbing Lombard jewelry store
Two Ohio men are facing criminal charges in connection with the theft of more than $135,000 in merchandise from a jewelry store at Yorktown Center in Lombard.
Lombard police responded to the Rogers & Holland Jewelers just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, after receiving information that two men were in the store almost two hours after it closed.
Police say Julius Alls, 51, and Demondre Butler, 28, both of Columbus, Ohio, used a crowbar to pry open a security gate at the store, then stole approximately $137,205 worth of merchandise from the display cases.
The men fled the store after seeing a security officer and left the scene in a silver Volvo, which police located at Highland Avenue and Roosevelt Road with its license plate covered by a towel.
The two were taken into custody following a traffic stop. Officers located a crowbar in the car, and a bag of jewelry allegedly thrown from the vehicle was found nearby.
Both were charged with one felony count each of theft, burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Both defendants were released pending their next court date on March 10.
