Teen faces weapons charges after suspicious vehicle report

A Chicago teen faces felony weapons charges after a suspicious vehicle investigation in Naperville over the weekend, authorities said Wednesday.

Mason J. Davis, 18, of the 11000 block of Maplewood Avenue in Chicago, has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm with no serial number and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of cannabis.

Naperville police were dispatched at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday to the 1600 block of Westminster Drive for a report of a suspicious vehicle. A caller reported the vehicle was parked on the wrong side of the street and the headlights were being turned on and off.

An officer found the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Davis, police said in a press release.

After seeing fresh cannabis in plain view inside the vehicle, the officer’s investigation led to the discovery of a concealed gun with no serial number and an extended magazine in the suspect’s pocket and a toy rifle that looked like a real firearm in the vehicle, the release stated.

Davis was granted pretrial release.
