Winfield Public Library dedicates youth services department to retired librarian

Winfield Public Library is dedicating the youth services department to retired librarian Nuccia Choate at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

The dedication will occur during the library’s monthly board meeting, which is open to the public.

During Nuccia’s 27 years at the library, she facilitated two monthly children’s book clubs, four weekly storytimes, and a myriad of programs focused on creativity, recycling and upcycling.

Nuccia nurtured the curious young spirits in Winfield with special STEM projects like incubating chicks and watching butterflies break from their cocoons in a butterfly farm, both on the youth services desk for observation.

“In my role as adult programming assistant, I was able to collaborate with Nuccia in planning special library events such as the ice cream social and holiday open house,” Dawn Leardi said. “She always put forth the extra effort to make these events special for the community.”

Nuccia knew every child and caregiver by heart; her love an integral part of her librarianship.

Former library employee Joy Davis was commissioned to create the sign for the dedication.

Nuccia is enjoying her retirement by watching her granddaughter, Mia, sewing and crafting. She is now a member of the library’s board of trustees.
