Downers Grove Public Library Foundation celebrates National Library Week with special screening

In recognition of National Library Week, the Downers Grove Public Library Foundation invites the community to celebrate and support the library on Wednesday, April 9, at Skeleton Key Brewery, 8102 Lemont Road, Unit 300, Woodridge. The 21-and-older event from 6 to 9 p.m. will include a private, pre-release screening of the film “Banned Together,” special performances, a book pull, raffle, and more.

Tickets ($30) are now on sale and can be purchased here. Full details can be found at dgplfoundation.org/nlw-2025.

This year’s National Library Week theme, “Drawn to the Library,” celebrates the many ways residents utilize libraries — for research, study, exploration, entertainment, connection, and growth.

“Downers Grove residents have proven time and again they are ‘drawn to the library’ as a place where everyone can discover, grow, play and learn,” said DGPLF President Amanda ReCupido. “We at the foundation are excited to gather the community together for this special event in support of the library we all love.”

“Banned Together” (2024) follows the evolution of three young women in their senior year of high school as they advocate against censorship at school board meetings, sit down with national politicians, famous authors, and constitutional scholars, and ultimately, speak on stage at the Right to Read Rally during the American Library Association’s annual conference in Chicago.

First recognized in 1958 and sponsored by the American Library Association, National Library Week highlights the important role libraries and library workers play in enriching lives and strengthening the community.

The Downers Grove Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to funding extraordinary gifts, beyond taxpayer support, to inspire and engage ideas and strengthen the library as a cornerstone of our community. Gifts have included additions to the library's public art collection and Anything Emporium, Satellite Stacks at area senior living centers, Korean language books, Book Club bags, expanded online offerings, a children's play wall, financial support for Youth Services' Summer Reading Program, participation in Illinois Libraries Present, a stipend for social work interns, and other support for greater community impact, access and outreach.
