What needed to be said

Thank you, Bishop Budde, for saying what needed to be said.

It’s time to say no to Trump’s dangerous agenda. He and his entourage felt scolded when the bishop made her plea for him to show mercy toward the immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities. It was not political for her as a pastor to plead that Trump exhibit grace and approach his job with “dignity, honesty, humility and kindness.” This is exactly what the Bible teaches us to do.

His threats to persecute LGBTQ+ people who love each and want to build a good life for their families are wrong. He should instead be focusing on punishing the degenerate behavior of heterosexual men who have cheated on their wives, paid off porn stars to keep silent and have been convicted of sexual assault.

Likewise, portraying immigrants as killers is a lie meant to dehumanize people by race. There are thousands of white “bros” that commit mass murders, storm and defile our Capitol and advocate destruction to gain power and wealth at the expense of others.

Trump’s pardon of the many insurrectionists who on Jan. 6 threatened our leaders, attacked our police and defiled our Capitol is unacceptable. People of faith must unite and defend the right of people everywhere to love whom they love, to seek refuge from persecution and to live together peacefully.

God bless Rev. Budde.
