AARP Smart Driver course is valuable

Senior drivers and DMV testing in Illinois is much in the news lately. Be a partner in public safety.

Lifelong learners have an opportunity to take the AARP Smart Driver Course. Naperville Park District offered this class recently to active adults and seniors over 50. Excellent volunteer teacher, Jim Kopchok, illuminated changes all around us: our bodies and minds, vehicle technology, road engineering, signs and laws. Change. Change. Change.

Fascinating and well worth the brief time commitment.

Birthdays don’t kill; health conditions can.

You alone are in charge of your speed. Roads are slickest during the first 30 minutes of rain. Minimize confusion — pre-plan your trip. Yielding is as much courtesy as it is law.

What does it cost to own a car? Other transportation options were identified including Ride Assist Naperville, an initiative of super-senior Bev Frier. Volunteers provide seniors affordable and dependable rides for certain medical appointments.

Enjoy your freedom (and an insurance discount). Navigate change with confidence — sign up for an AARP Smart Driver Course near you.
