Demolition continues at the Sears’ former headquarters campus Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, in Hoffman Estates. Developers plan to replace Sears’ longtime headquarters with a 200-megawatt data center campus. Compass Datacenters began work this year to raze the 2.4 million square feet corporate office space in Hoffman Estates and replace it with a campus of five cloud data storage buildings, each with 40 megawatts of power. The project represents a $10 billion investment by Dallas-based Compass Datacenters to build the facility.
