Pingree Grove tavern burglary leads to chase, crash
One suspect is in custody and two others at large after a burglary at a Pingree Grove tavern early Sunday morning, police said.
The suspects led authorities on a car chase culminating in a crash that critically injured one suspect, while the others fled on foot, according to police.
Pingree Grove police said officers were called at 3:59 a.m. Sunday to the Outpost Tavern and Grill, 40W825 Oak Street, in response to a burglary alarm.
Authorities said three burglars broke a window to enter the business and stole an ATM cash box before fleeing in a white van.
A van believed to be the burglars’ was spotted by Kane County sheriff’s deputies, who pursued it on eastbound Route 20. The van crashed between Highland Woods Boulevard and Coombs Road and a suspects located inside the vehicle was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, police said.
The stolen cash box also was recovered from the vehicle, according to police.
The other suspects were tracked by police dogs and drones but have not been located, authorities said.
Pingree Grove police continue to investigate, with the assistance of the Elgin Police Department, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the Kane County Office of Emergency Management, the Huntley Police Department and the Lake in the Hills Police Department, officials said.
