Testing and driving safety statistics

Has anyone paused to consider that the fewer crash-related accidents reported by the elderly in Illinois is because of the mandatory road tests? Is it possible that removing or reducing the mandatory road test or licensing requirements would increase the number of accidents and Illinois would fall backwards in line with the national averages?

I do not see this as ageism of any sort, simply an acknowledgment that my skills and reactions have quite possibly declined in the last few years and will continue to decline; just a fact of life.

I will likely rue the day I need to give up my driver’s license, but that day will come. I only hope that it will be because of a caring family member, a friend, a doctor or an outside view provided by a licensing examiner and not due to an accident that could possibly injure someone.
