Prominent Illinois Democrats to speak at Kane County Truman Dinner fundraiser March 2

The Kane County Democrats will host their annual winter Truman Dinner fundraiser on Sunday, March 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Q Center, 1405 N. Fifth Ave. in St. Charles. This year’s event features a lineup of outstanding speakers with Pam Davidson as the keynote speaker. Kane County Democratic Chair Mark Guethle will deliver the opening remarks and introduce the following speakers:

• Alexi Giannoulias, Illinois Secretary of State. This office is responsible for issuing driver’s licenses and registering vehicles, overseeing the Illinois State Library, and administering literacy efforts. It has more of a direct impact on residents’ daily lives than any other state office.

• Susana Mendoza, Illinois Comptroller. Mendoza believes that residents and legislators should have a monthly accounting of the debts owed by every state agency. Since 2016, she has gotten four Transparency Bills passed.

• Tim Drea, president of Illinois AFL-CIO. Drea understands the concerns of the working class. He began his career as a miner for Peabody Coal and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1979. He has served as president of the AFL-CIO since 2019 after serving as secretary/treasurer for 12 years and legislative and political director for 11 years.

The keynote speaker will be Pam Davidson, the former Knox County Board chair and a current county board member. For years, she has been a community leader in her county and her hometown of Galesburg where she organizes the Martin Luther King breakfast celebration and trivia nights. While employed at John Deere Harvester Works, she was an active member of United Auto Workers Local 865. Because of her commitment to building the Democratic Party, she was elected State Central Committeewoman for the 17th Congressional District and attended the Democratic National Convention as a delegate for her district.
