Donations welcome for CHIP IN Batavia’s annual Prom Dress Giveaway

CHIP IN Batavia and the Batavia Public Library are back with their popular Prom Dress Giveaway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, and 12:30-3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23.

CHIP IN’s mission is to assist low income and homeless Batavia families; however, this event is open to any student from any school district, regardless of need. The goal is to ensure that all students, regardless of income status, enjoy this rite of passage and don’t miss prom due to the typically great expense.

As longtime partner, the Batavia Public Library will host the CHIP IN Batavia Prom Dress Collection Drive and Giveaway event.

Clean prom dresses in good to excellent condition, as well as shoes, purses, jewelry, new makeup and accessories may be dropped off at the library checkout desk beginning Feb. 1.

New this year, every student who visits this event will be entered in a raffle for a gift basket containing a gift certificate from Batavia’s Special Occasions on the Avenue, valued at $250.

Donations can be dropped off between Saturday, Feb. 1, and Thursday, March 20, at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

Any monetary donations are greatly appreciated and will be used to pay for tuxedo rentals and prom tickets for Batavia students. Checks should be made payable to Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence, with “CHIP IN Batavia” written on the memo line.

The Batavia Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Dress racks for drop off will be available near the checkout desk and tax donation letters also will be available. Contact the library at (630) 879-1393 for information.

In 2024, CHIP IN provided more than 800 dresses to students in over 40 schools and five charities. They encourage students to come with friends or family. It is a lot of fun and the dresses are gorgeous.
