Deputies, officer hurt during pursuit and crash in Mundelein

Two Lake County sheriff’s deputies and a Mundelein police officer suffered minor injuries early Wednesday while trying to stop and arrest a pickup truck driver who collided with a squad car during a pursuit.

The resulting investigation prompted police to shut down sections of Route 83 and Diamond Lake Road for several hours. It reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

The low-speed pursuit began a little after 2 a.m. on the 1100 block of West Maple Avenue. After the pickup truck collided with a sheriff’s squad car at Route 60/83 and Diamond Lake Road, the driver began to run but was arrested, police said.

The driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, as were the injured deputies and officer.

Mundelein police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating.
