Aurora kicks off special census to expand services to growing community
The city of Aurora is set to undergo a special census beginning on Feb. 3, 2025.
This initiative, which serves as a count of the city's population held outside of the normal census, is critical to restoring key city funding. Census funds assist the city in providing road maintenance, street salt, public safety personnel, special events, and more.
Addresses in the Special Census Area will begin receiving mailers from the Census Bureau on Feb. 3.
The first two mailings, scheduled to take place on Feb. 4 and Feb. 10, will be letters, while the last two mailings, scheduled to take place on Feb. 18 and Feb. 27, will be postcards.
Each letter and postcard will contain a unique 12-digit code, along with information on how to participate in the “internet Self-Response” period, which runs from Feb. 3 through March 7, 2025.
Once the internet Self-Response period ends, census workers will begin going door-to-door to collect information from addresses that did not respond.
The city needs your help to establish a more accurate population count, leading to a restoration of key funding and expansion of services to the city's growing community.
