St. Charles Public Library to host Lincoln presenter on slavery, emancipation

Abraham Lincoln is often regarded as one of the greatest U.S. presidents, due to his leadership during the Civil War and his role in ending slavery. His leadership in navigating such a tumultuous time in American history, especially with the Emancipation Proclamation, reshaped the nation and its values.

The St. Charles Public Library is bringing Lincoln presenter Kevin Wood to present “Lincoln on Slavery, Emancipation, and Equality” on Thursday, Feb. 6.

Lincoln, as portrayed by Wood, will give a summary of the long history of slavery in North America, focusing especially on the great debates and compromises over slavery at the time of the formation of the United States and during the subsequent 80 years.

Wood will share Lincoln’s political views on slavery and emancipation and how these gradually shifted over the years.

The program will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Huntley Community Room of the library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. (Route 25). To register, visit scpld.org or call (630) 584-0076.
