Elgin Chamber rewards leadership and community service with new scholarship program
The Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce and its economic development program, Elgin Development Group, are offering eight $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors pursuing further education.
The chamber believes that leadership, community service, and the pursuit of higher education should be appropriately recognized and rewarded with this new scholarship program.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for us to support present and future business and community leaders in our communities of Elgin and South Elgin,” said Carol Gieske, CEO of the Elgin Area Chamber. “Whether a student is pursuing further education through certificate, license, two-year or four-year trade, technical school, or university, we want to support their pathway to success.”
Available to high school seniors that reside in Elgin or South Elgin, the scholarship criteria are based on the applicant’s scholastic achievement, interest in continuing education and career goals, and participation and leadership in school and community activities.
“We think it is important that local high school students gain the necessary skills to be our community’s leaders of tomorrow,” said Tony Lucenko, Elgin Development Group director. “To provide them assistance in taking the next step in furthering their careers, we are so pleased to award these scholarships to qualified applicants.”
Applications are being accepted online until April 11 at www.elginchamber.com/scholarship-application/.
