‘Your Hit Parade: Global Edition’ concert launches new season of Saturday Night Lights in St. Charles
On March 1, vocalist Maureen Christine and the Michael Bazan Quartet will kick off a new season of “Saturday Night Lights” concerts at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Baker Community Center in downtown St. Charles.
Produced and presented by the Norris Cultural Arts Center, the concert series enters its sixth year with a spring schedule with three events. For more information and links to online ticketing, visit www.NorrisCulturalArts.com.
Maureen Christine and the Michael Bazan Quartet will perform a program called “Your Hit Parade: Global Edition,” showcasing popular hits of artists and composers from various spots around the globe. The concert will include songs made famous by such diverse stars as Julie Andrews, Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Helen Reddy, Burt Bacharach, and Olivia Newton John.
Adding to the variety, the program will include famous light classical selections from Italy and Paris, along with a sprinkling of jazz standards.
The original radio and TV program, “Your Hit Parade,” shaped American musical tastes for nearly 25 years during the mid-20th century. Maureen Christine and quartet update the concept with a “Global Edition” twist.
As an incentive to ticket buyers, the series offers a “Full Table of Six” option, providing six seats for the price of five. All paid tickets include three complimentary beverages (wine, beer, soft drinks).
The spring series also includes concerts on April 5 with John Dorhauer’s Heisenberg Uncertainty Players, a big band performing a program called “Classical Jazz,” and on May 17, vocalist Wally Swiatly, joined by a versatile trio, for a program called “Simply Wally,” featuring a variety of songs, styles and eras.
