Des Plaines man reports $195,000 crypto theft
Des Plaines police are investigating the theft of approximately $195,000 in cryptocurrency from a local man’s accounts.
The theft occurred Jan. 13 or 14, after the man twice tried to access his Discord online communications account, police said in a news release this week.
Shortly after the second login attempt, the man received multiple notifications via his computer of someone trying to access his financial accounts, police said. He took steps to secure his bank accounts and then shut down his computer.
That night or early the next morning, however, the victim’s crypto accounts were accessed and the currency was stolen.
