Des Plaines man pointed gun at driver during dispute, police say

A Des Plaines man is facing charges after police said he pointed a gun at someone during a dispute.

Richard Kedzior, 78, of the 2000 block of Locust Street, is charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor aggravated assault.

The confrontation occurred about 5:45 p.m. Jan. 17 on the 1600 block of Orchard Street, police said.

A man said he and some friends were driving in Des Plaines and had stopped on Orchard Street at Riverview Avenue. While the car was stopped, Kedzior banged on the driver’s window, police said in a news release.

When the driver got out, Kedzior yelled at him and then pointed a handgun at him, police alleged. The driver got back in the car, drove off and called 911, police said.

Officers spotted Kedzior in the area and stopped him because he matched the description of the gunman, according to the release. Officers searched Kedzior and discovered he was carrying a handgun in a hip holster, as well as a concealed carry license and a firearm owners identification card, police said.

Kedzior was taken to the police station and questioned. During his interrogation, Kedzior denied being involved in a confrontation and removing the gun from its holster, police said.

He was released after being charged.
