A man who died Monday morning after a head-on crash in Grayslake has been identified as 30-year-old Joseph Roon of Lake Villa.

Preliminary autopsy results showed Roon died from blunt-force injuries as a result of the crash about 8:30 a.m. near 115 S. Route 83, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

First responders arrived to find two of three vehicles involved with heavy damage following an apparent head-on crash, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation showed a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu and blue 2020 Toyota Corolla were traveling southbound on Route 83 and a black 2019 Lexus UX was traveling north.

The Malibu, driven by Roon, rear-ended the Corolla and crossed into the northbound lane of Route 83 where it crashed head on with the Lexus, authorities said.

Roon was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and pronounced dead in the emergency room.

The crash remains under investigation by Grayslake police and MCAT.
