A crowd of Elgin community leaders and members gathered Saturday for the 40th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast filling the Seigle Auditorium at Elgin Community College.

Andre Allen, pastor of New Beginnings Ministries Worldwide, kicked off the breakfast with a rousing speech.

Program Chair Janice Hare welcomed guests and also led the group in a moment of silence in remembrance of prominent community members who died in 2024, including Risé Dawn Jones of Elgin.

Jones was an entrepreneur, consultant, civic and community leader, a tireless advocate for children in underserved communities, and a fighter for racial and social justice, organizers said.
