Keeneyville District 20 recognizes DuPage Elementary Principal of the Year

Keeneyville School District 20 recently announced that Jon Pokora, principal of Waterbury Elementary School in Roselle, has been named the 2025 Elementary Principal of the Year for the DuPage Region.

This prestigious award given by the Illinois Principals Association recognizes elementary school principals who make a significant and positive impact on their students, staff, and the broader school community.

Award recipients are chosen for their ability to demonstrate a positive impact on education and advocacy for children; are highly respected by students, colleagues, and the community; maintain an orderly, purposeful learning environment; show strong leadership by setting high standards for staff and students; assume an active leadership role in the community; and serve as an active principal at a school in which commitment is clearly evident through programs designed to meet the academic and social needs of all students through firmly established community ties with parents and local business associations.

Pokora was humbled and honored to receive this award, recognizing “the incredibly strong quality of administrators throughout the DuPage Region.” He believes that “this award really honors the staff’s work at the school, shining a light on their eagerness to implement a curriculum that supports students and focuses on the whole child. Working collaboratively, the staff is working hard to meet the needs of each and every student.”

The Keeneyville District 20 board of rducation and the DuPage Illinois Principal Association will publicly recognize and present the award to Dr. Pokora at the next board of education meeting on Jan. 23.

As the regional winner, Pokora will advance to the state-level competition for Illinois Elementary Principal of the Year. Statewide winners will be announced at the IPA Education Leaders Annual Conference in October 2025.
