Arlington Heights woman jailed after attempting to flee from police in DuPage County
An Arlington Heights woman is being held in the DuPage County jail while she awaits a trial on felony charges of attempting to flee from police.
According to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, 32-year-old Tiffany Main and an accomplice were stealing mail from an Oak Brook neighborhood early Thursday morning when they were spotted by police.
Main’s accomplice, 41-year-old Patryk Zubrzcki of River Grove, attempted to flee in the car they were in, but he gave up and attempted to run, according to court records. He was quickly apprehended.
Prosecutors said Main got behind the wheel of the car and tried to escape, driving over tire-puncturing devices set up by police. One tire was punctured, but Main continued her attempt to elude police and drove over the devices once again, this time puncturing the other three tires. She also hit a police car, according to prosecutors.
According to court papers, Main continued to drive on the deflated tires before crashing into cement median at 22nd Street and Butterfield Road. She then exited the vehicle and ignored officers’ commands to stop. She was apprehended a short time later after a brief foot chase.
When searching the vehicle, police located mail from Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Bensenville and Oak Brook.
Main was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, and driving while license revoked.
The judge said Main was a “danger to the community” and did not believe she would obey any conditions if released. The judge cited a conviction in Michigan for fleeing and eluding; a conviction for tampering with an electronic device and “screaming uncontrollably” in a court holding cell.
Zubrzcki was charged with possession of methamphetamine, identity theft, and fleeing and eluding. He was released pretrial, prosecutors said.
The pair is due back in court Feb. 3.
