Kane County residents can access free brain health evaluations
Are you or someone you care about experiencing challenges with thinking, memory, or behavior?
The Kane County Health Department, in partnership with Plum Tree Child and Adolescent Psychology and Mathers Clinic, is offering free neuropsychological evaluations for Kane County residents who:
• Have or qualify for Medicaid or Medicare, or
• Meet 200% of the federal poverty level guidelines based on income and family size.
A neuropsychological evaluation can help identify learning disabilities and ensure children receive tailored support in school, such as Individualized Education Program or 504 plans.
For adults, having documentation of challenges can provide support under the Americans with Disabilities Act, including flexible work schedules or assistive tools.
Additionally, evaluation results can guide professionals in recommending therapies or interventions, such as behavioral therapy or educational strategies.
An evaluation may be needed for individuals experiencing:
• Learning difficulties;
• Behavioral challenges;
• Memory or cognitive concerns;
• Cognitive or behavioral changes following a brain injury, stroke, or other condition.
“This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to improve behavioral health systems in Kane County,” said Michael Isaacson, executive director of the Kane County Health Department. “By offering free neuropsychological evaluations, we’re removing barriers to care and helping people get the support they need to thrive in school, work, and relationships.”
Evaluations are conducted by Plum Tree Child and Adolescent Psychology (ages 3 to 21) and Mathers Clinic (ages 22 or older). Spanish interpretation is available.
