Two Waukegan Public Works employees injured while trimming trees

Two Waukegan Public Works employees were injured in an electrocution accident Thursday morning, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the scene at Pershing and Greenwood avenues around 11:30 a.m. and, upon arrival, found the two men who had been electrocuted, according to a news release from the Waukegan Fire Department.

The men were two of several trimming trees Thursday when the crane boom of a truck touched a power line, energizing the truck, the news release stated.

One man with electrical burns was flown by helicopter to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The other was taken by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

ComEd also arrived at the scene to ensure the safety of the power lines.

No further information was immediately available.
