Flag clarification

Regarding the flags that will fly at half-staff for 30 days for former President Jimmy Carter, Meg Kinnard of The Associated Press (published in the Daily Herald Jan. 4) writes “And while Trump will be the first president sworn in with U.S. flags lowered …” let me correct that:

Flags were at half-staff following Harry Truman’s death in late December of 1972 and were still lowered when Richard Nixon was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 1973.
