Foreign failure

Today everyone is praising President Carter. In 1976 I voted for Jimmy Carter. I think he was a good person and an exemplary husband and father. But I have one question.

Why does no one talk about the fact that while he was pushing for human rights and attacking corrupt dictators, millions died in Southeast Asia because he had no real understanding (in my opinion) of the reality of communism.
