Balanced reporting can have ideas you don’t like
Apparently, the Daily Herald can’t make anyone happy. Mr. Lustig wrote to complain of the paper’s anti-Trump bias, conveniently overlooking submissions by pro-Trump columnists and letter writers. Many letters by those on the left complain about the pro-Trump bias shown by the paper.
The “marketplace of ideas” enshrined in the First Amendment does not just apply to the opinions, reporting and columnists one agrees with: it applies to all speech.
If a letter writer can include unsubstantiated or false information in their opinion to support their view, they should not complain when those on the other side of the political spectrum do the same.
If you’re unhappy with the Herald for their “bias,” I suggest conservatives subscribe to the New York Post and liberals subscribe to the Huffington Post. Then, rather than balanced reporting, you’ll only get the news you agree with.
