St. Charles library showcases local artist Caitlin Palagi

During January and February, the St. Charles Public Library is hosting an art exhibit by Caitlin Palagi, a local artist who specializes in oil paintings. She believes in intuitive art — in finding our creative voices by trusting in our minds and bodies. Her growth as an artist occurred when she began leaning into her creativity and stopped analyzing it.

Meet Palagi at a special artist reception on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. to in the library’s Bisbee Conference Room, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Palagi is primarily a self-taught artist. While she pursued an art minor in college, she ultimately dropped it just short of completion, to make a timely graduation in May 2012. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Saint Xavier University, after a six-year struggle to complete her coursework through chronic and acute medical issues.

Palagi enjoys sharing her love for intuitive artwork with local mental health groups in the Fox Valley area to join wellness and creativity. She is an active member of her local arts community from planning to painting.

Her artwork has been shown at local libraries and galleries in the greater Chicago area. It can also be found in her customers’ homes as well as local business establishments spanning from Long Boat Key, Florida to St. Charles. She thoroughly enjoys connecting with people and is a resident artist and an instructor at Water Street Studios, and a visiting artist for CAPE, Chicago Arts Partnership in Education.

Since 1979, the works of local artists have been on display at the St. Charles Public Library through its Community Artist Gallery program. The exhibit can be seen anytime the library is open: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
