Postal privatization

How ironic. I got my card with a letter from my friend of 45 years who lives in England, and she was lamenting the very poor service she gets with her present postal service. It’s the first time since I’ve known her this has been the case. She never received the card we sent last year that included a check for her new house, which of course she also never received.

Now I discover through Veronique de Rugy’s column of Dec. 26 that their system has been privatized. Imagine that. We’ve seen what our private prison systems have done here; just another update of the Jim Crow system, except now it ensnares everyone, not just Black people. What an incentive for graft. Privatization: throw the baby out with the bath water, rather than tweak the system into its past excellent performance.
