One arrest, 137 tickets in Wheeling police safety effort

A holiday drunken-driving enforcement effort in Wheeling netted one impaired driver, police announced Thursday.

The campaign, which teamed Wheeling police with the Illinois Department of Transportation, began Dec. 13 and ended at 6 a.m. Thursday.

In addition to the driver charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, 137 tickets were issued for speeding, distracted driving and other violations, police said.
