Menorah is lit for Naperville Hanukkah celebration
Candles on a grand Menorah were lit by for the second night of Hanukkah by members of the Chabad of Naperville Jewish community during a gathering of over 100 people in front of the Nichols Library Thursday.
Hanukkah, a celebration for all time, is highlighted by the kindling of the Menorah each night of the holiday. Two candles, in addition to the Shamash, the center candle, were lit.
“We're gathered here this evening, gathered as one people, one community, celebrating the holiday of Hanukkah, which is really about bringing goodness (and) kindness to our world,” said Rabbi Mendy Goldstein.
Hanukkah also propagates the universal message that ultimately good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression, and light over darkness.
Cars bearing lighted plastic Menorah decorations passed along the adjacent streets during a parade that took place to the lighting of the Menorah, then doughnuts and potato Latkes were served.
After the lighting of the Menorah, there was dancing as festive music played on a portable speaker.
