Memorial service Saturday for former Glen Ellyn trustee Phyllis Scanlan
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, for former Glen Ellyn trustee Phyllis G. Scanlan.
Scanlan, of Wheaton, died Nov. 25. She was 88.
Born Phyllis Gerhold in 1936 in Berwyn, Scanlan grew up in Riverside. She graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1954 and from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1958.
She married William “Bill” Scanlan in 1959. The couple lived in Downers Grove, Lisle and Glen Ellyn before moving to Wheaton in 2014.
In addition to serving as a Glen Ellyn trustee from 1989 to 1993, Scanlan was active in scout groups, school committees and other organizations.
Scanlan enjoyed writing and had several letters published in the Daily Herald and the Chicago Daily News, as well as a poem in the book “Meteor Shower.” She also enjoyed knitting and needlepoint.
Scanlan’s survivors include two children, a grandchild, three step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandson.
Visitation and a memorial service are set for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Wyndemere Retirement Center auditorium, 200 Wyndemere Circle, Wheaton.
Scanlan is interred at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
