Tent City ‘solution’ is inadequate

Here’s what is amazing about the homeless/mental health situation as described by the story of how Elgin finds remedy for Tent City by renting hotel rooms for those occupants of the area along the railroad tracks by the Fox River: Elgin had a solution to this problem that was dismantled called The Elgin State Hospital.

That facility took care of those not able to live in society by separating them from the hazards of living on the street. The good intentions of closing that site have not been realized and have exacerbated the problem, not solved it.

Tax dollars should be focused on reopening comprehensive facilities rather than renting hotel rooms where no care or treatment is provided.
