Cook and Lake boys basketball roundup: Schneider’s 3 lifts Prospect; Stevenson advances with balanced attack
Ben Schneider knocked down a three-pointer with 1:04 left to play and then added a free throw after a steal as Prospect knocked off Oak Forest 57-53 in the opening round of the Wheeling Hardwood Classic Monday.
Schneider led the Knights (5-6) with 17 points, including a pair of threes. He also had five assists and three steals. Colin Tucker had 11 points and 6 assists, Anderson Neach had 10 points and Jack Skoog 9 points and five rebounds.

Deerfield 72, Buffalo Grove 23: Deerfield (9-3) jumped to a 40-6 halftime advantage and never looked back. Buffalo Grove (3-8) was led by Edwin Karnauchovas, who had 7 points.
Downers Grove North 60, Maine West 24: The Trojans (9-1) made their opener a relatively comfortable one by jumping to 30-12 halftime lead. Nolan Hurter led 13 different Downers Grove North scorers with 11 points. Maine West (5-6) was led by Davion Tate, who had 7 points, and Frankie Ferraiolo, who had 6 points.
Stevenson 65, Notre Dame 47: Stevenson (7-3), which is back at the Hardwood Classic, used a 21-point second quarter to pull away from the Dons. The Patriots had four players in double figures and were led by Liam Curtain who had 17 points. Aidan Bardic had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while Donovan Williams added 13 points and Rocco Pagliocca 11 points. Notre Dame (5-6) was led by Brock Suvarna and Brady Sehlhorst, who had 11 points apiece.
Glenbrook North 57, Wheeling 32: Jordan Cohen had 23 points for the Spartans (7-4). Wheeling (4-7) was led by Kyle Parker Peterson who had 20 points including 5 three-pointers.
Libertyville 77, Streamwwod 33: The Wildcats (8-1) rolled in the nightcap of the first day of the tournament. Bryce Wegrzyn led Libertyville with 33 points, 25 of which came in the first half. Wegrzyn was 15-of-16 from the field. Terrence Davis added 10 points.
West Chicago 47, Schaumburg Christian 37: Schaumburg Christian (8-5) dropped its opener at the Elgin Holiday tournament.
