Crews continue to work on a $1.2 million project to remove the Carpentersville Dam Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024. The project, which will be finished in November, will create a 10.2-mile unimpeded flow of the Fox River — the longest free-flowing stretch through Kane County.

A mountain biker pedals through trails in the former Meadowdale International Raceway track area on Route 31 in Carpentersville on March 7, 2024. The area used to host auto racing on a paved, twisting rack in the 1950s and 1960s and is now used for walking, hiking and off-road biking. Wearing a fresh coat of orange paint trimmed with green, black and white and resting atop a farm silo, “Happy Jack,” an 18-foot wide by 15-foot tall fiberglass pumpkin, has been drawing visitors to Goebbert's Farm in South Barrington since 1979. The pumpkin was repainted during the Spring of this year.
