Deer Park considering grocery tax

Deer Park could be the next suburb to approve a 1% tax on grocery-store purchases when the village board meets Thursday.

Officials in many towns have approved or are considering such a tax because the state will stop collecting a similar tax on groceries in January 2026. The state collects that tax and sends the cash to municipalities.

If approved, Deer Park officials would begin assessing its tax on Jan. 1, 2026.

Thursday’s board meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Vehe Barn, 23570 W. Cuba Road.
