Recycle your holiday lights for free with Glen Ellyn Park District
The Glen Ellyn Park District is making it easy to recycle your old holiday lights. From Nov. 25 to Jan. 26, you can drop off broken or unwanted light strands at any of the following four convenient locations:
• Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, 800 St. Charles Road;
• Spring Avenue Recreation Center, 185 Spring Ave.;
• Main Street Recreation Center, 501 Hill Ave.;
• Dr. Frank Johnson Center, 490 Kenilworth Ave.
Recycling is free!
Collection bins will be clearly marked outside each facility. Accepted items include all colors and lengths of mini lights, C7 and C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, and extension cords. Lights should be removed from boxes or bags before being placed in the containers.
By recycling your holiday lights, you help divert waste from landfills and recover valuable materials such as copper, plastic, and glass. These resources can be repurposed, supporting sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact.
Since 2014, the Glen Ellyn Park District, in partnership with Elgin Recycling, has successfully diverted more than 15,000 pounds of holiday lights from landfills, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.
