Jones won’t play for Bears against Vikings

Braxton Jones will not be making the trip to Minnesota, the Bears announced Sunday, meaning the team will be without their starting left tackle for Monday night’s game against the Vikings.

The Bears added Jones to Sunday’s injury report due to a concussion. Larry Borom is likely to start for Jones, with Hinsdale Central graduate Kiran Amegadjie serving as a backup.

Jones has started 11 games this season for the Bears. He didn’t play in losses to the Cardinals and Patriots because of a knee injury.

Running back Roschon Johnson and offensive lineman Ryan Bates are also out for the Bears with concussions. Defensive lineman Gervon Dexter is out with a knee injury.

In addition to Johnson’s injury, starting running back D’Andre Swift is listed as questionable with a groin injury. The Bears on Sunday elevated running back Darrynton Evans from the practice squad.

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore was listed as questionable on the Vikings’ injury report released Saturday.

The Bears (4-9), losers of seven straight games, face the Vikings (11-2) at 7 p.m. Monday. The game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN+.

Minnesota has won six straight games including last month’s 30-27 overtime win over the Bears. The Bears in the first meeting trailed by 11 points with under two minutes to play, but rallied to tie the game at the end of regulation on a 48-yard field goal by Cairo Santos.

The Vikings won in overtime with a 29-yard field goal by John Parker Romo, who filled in for injured starter Will Reichard.

Monday’s game will be the second for the Bears with Thomas Brown serving as interim head coach. The Bears lost their debut with Brown at the helm, 38-13, last week at San Francisco.
