Don’t cut this position
Donald Trumps’s idea of creating a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy is tasked to help cut the U.S. federal budget by up to $2 trillion through measures such as reducing waste, abolishing government agencies and downsizing the federal workforce. Estimates are that DOGE may eliminate federal agencies and reduce the number of federal employees by as much as 75%. I trust and hope that when gurus Musk and Ramaswamy review where to cut, they do not eliminate one crucial and critical position.
For those of us old enough to remember, in the ‘50s and ‘60s, good old WBBM-TV Channel 2 employed a colorful weatherman named P.J. Hoff. While his forecasts were accurate, he also embellished them with cartoon caricatures that he drew during the forecast on his sketchpad. One vital assistant to his forecast was the “Vice President in Charge of Looking Out the Window” who was tasked with reporting the weather seen through the window.
I strongly implore the two “gurus,” i.e. Mssrs. Musk and Ramaswamy, to not cut this vital position when they do their assessment of government waste and inefficiency. For if they do, we will be forced to rely on our own devices as to what to wear each morning to greet the day ahead.
