Library exhibit examines science and legend
Stories of mythical beings have been around for thousands of years sometimes inspired by fossils or living animals. “Giants, Dragons & Unicorns: The World of Mythic Creatures” exhibit is now open at Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. It traces the natural and cultural roots of some of the world’s most enduring mythical creatures. The exhibit is organized by the American Museum of Natural History in New York and includes models and cast fossils of prehistoric animals to investigate how they could have — through misidentification, speculation, fear, or imagination — inspired the development of several legendary creatures. It continues through Feb. 2.
