Authorities: Man had more than 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse
A Lindenhurst man was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with having more than 1,000 images and videos depicting violent child sexual abuse, authorities said.
Aaron J. Stiegel, 25, of the 300 block of North Crooked Lake Lane is facing five counts of possession of child pornography, class 2 felonies. He was scheduled to be in first appearance court Wednesday morning.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Cybercrime Unit learned an IP address in Lake County was uploading child sexual abuse images and video online. Investigators found the address was registered to an address where Stiegel lives, authorities said.
Investigators, using a search warrant, determined Stiegel was responsible for downloading, uploading and storing child pornography, Lake County sheriff's Deputy Chief Chris Covelli said.
Additional charges are anticipated, Covelli said.
Some of the images and videos showed children under age 10 being sadistically sexually assaulted and Stiegel likely traded child pornography with others across the country, according to the release.
Detectives continue to investigate individuals Stiegel shared child pornography with and leads will be sent to the appropriate agencies, Covelli said.
